It was great seeing many of you at the 60th Florida RV Park and Campground Association Convention. We appreciated the opportunity to connect and share updates on our recent successes Tallahassee for the industry.
We were also pleased to host Representative Danny Nix and Representative Toby Overdorf. Both continue to be strong champions for our industry, and your support of the PAC has played a direct role in helping us achieve a successful legislative session.
Special Session
The Legislature convened in Tallahassee during the last week of April for a Special Session. At the call of Governor DeSantis, lawmakers took up a new congressional map that redraws district boundaries across the state. Early analysis suggests the changes could provide Republicans with an advantage in as many as four additional seats, though the long-term impact will ultimately be decided by voters.
In addition to redistricting, proposals related to artificial intelligence regulation and medical freedom tied to vaccine mandates were expected to be considered. However, the Florida House did not take up these measures. Both chambers instead focused solely on the congressional map before adjourning.
The Budget
The Legislature’s most fundamental responsibility remains unfinished. For the second consecutive year, the House and Senate were unable to reach agreement on a state budget during the regular session.
Lawmakers are now expected to return to Tallahassee in May to finalize a budget ahead of the July 1start of the new fiscal year. As negotiations continue, we are closely monitoring developments and will keep you informed as decisions are made.
Priority Legislation
We are proud to report that key pieces of priority legislation have now been signed into law.
Senate Bill 118, sponsored by Senator Keith Truenow and Representative Danny Nix, addresses burdensome local government special assessment practices and ensures greater consistency across jurisdictions. The law clarifies that special assessments based on square footage cannot exceed the maximum size of a recreational vehicle, while still preserving local governments’ authority to set rates and use alternative methodologies. This represents a meaningful step forward in protecting RV owners and businesses from disproportionate costs.
House Bill 399, which was signed by Governor DeSantis on March 27, includes important provisions secured through our advocacy. The legislation expands placement flexibility for residential manufactured buildings within RV parks, allowing homes built to the Florida Building Code to be placed on any lot within a park.
Additionally, similar language was included in House Bill 803, which was delivered to the Governor on April 30. The Governor now has 15 days to act on that measure.
Looking Ahead
As the Legislature prepares to return to finalize the state budget, we remain actively engaged with lawmakers and candidates across Florida to ensure the RV industry continues to have a strong and effective voice in Tallahassee.
Your support is what makes this work possible. Every conversation, every legislative win, and every relationship built is a direct result of a strong and engaged PAC.
We encourage you to stay involved, stay informed, and continue supporting the PAC so we can build on this momentum and protect the future of our industry.
