August has been an eventful month in Florida politics, and we are excited to join many of you this week at the annual retreat. With elections underway, appointments announced, and the 2026 Session just around the corner, there is plenty to cover.
2026 Legislative Session Committee Meetings
Preparations for the 2026 Session continue. Committee meetings begin the week of October 6 and will run through December 12 ahead of the regular session starting in January. These meetings are critical opportunities for lawmakers to set the stage on issues that impact our industry and Florida’s economy. We also expect new committee announcement to be made in the coming days.
Committee Week Schedule:
- October 6–10
- October 13–17
- November 3–7
- November 17–21
- December 1–5
- December 8–12
Major Leadership Changes
Governor Ron DeSantis appointed State Senator Jay Collins as Florida’s next Lieutenant Governor. Collins, a decorated Army veteran and respected legislator, will now serve alongside the Governor. A special election will be scheduled to fill the Hillsborough County-based Senate seat he leaves behind.
Special Elections Update
Today marked a big day for Florida voters, with two special elections conducted in Central Florida:
- State Rep. LaVon Bracy (D) won her election to Florida Senate, District 15.
- RaShon Young (D) secured victory in the race for Florida House District 40.
Looking ahead, voters in Palm Beach County will soon choose a replacement for the late Representative Joe Casello. Republicans are heading into a contested primary on Sept. 30th, with the winner set to face a Delray Beach Vice Mayor, Rob Long in the December 9th general election. Facing the same timeline, former State Rep. Ralph Massullo is the odds-on favorite in the race to fill CFO Blaise Ingoglia’s Senate Seat.
CFO Ingoglia Announces Campaign
Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia, appointed earlier this summer by Governor DeSantis after Congressman Jimmy Patronis’s election to Washington, has officially launched his campaign to seek a full term as CFO. Ingoglia’s candidacy will be one of the key statewide races to watch heading into 2026.
